This will give you the fiber and nutrients your body needs which refined carbohydrates do not have.

Highly processed foods, like those that have trans fats, should be avoided. Foods with high trans fat contents increases your risk of heart disease. Not only do trans fats increase your LDL, or "bad", cholesterol levels, they simultaneously decrease your HDL, or "good", cholesterol levels.

When considering a diet that provides an adequate nutrition level, be sure to cut down the amount of microwave style dinners that you consume. These meals typically contain heavy amounts of salt and sugar. To get the most from your food, only buy fresh vegetables and meat, and prepare them at home.

There's no such thing as encouraging your family to drink too much water in the course of a day. It's okay to offer up juice or milk at meal times, but don't provide it as a between-meal option. By drinking mainly juice or milk, they are likely to be less hungry at meals. Allow your kids to help pick foods when shopping for groceries. If you let them pick out fruits and vegetables that they want, they'll be more likely to eat them. This is a way to get them to try new things, particularly if they find choices with bright colors.
