What Would Happen During Alcohol Rehab Houston

By Annabelle Holman

Drinking problems are extremely hard to cure simply because drinking problems would include both physical and psychological issues wherein one would have to deal with both in order to be healed. Now if one would attend an alcohol rehab houston program, then he would be detoxifying both his mind and his body and the same time. If one believes that he has a drinking problem, then he might want to go and try out this type of program.

Now probably the hardest part of the program would be the first few weeks because this is the time wherein one would be cleansing his body. During the process, he will probably suffer some withdrawal symptoms because his body is not used to not having alcohol. Now the length of time in which the detoxification would last will depend on how heavy of a drinker the patient is.

Now do take note that while one is in the detoxification process, he will be experience a lot of discomfort and some symptoms of withdrawal. This will happen because the body is trying to adjust to not having alcohol enter it. If one is not such a heavy drinker but still a regular drinker, he will be experiencing mild symptoms like anxiety, shaking, and nausea.

Of course the heavier drinkers will experience worse symptoms. Now heavier drinkers may experience things like slight hallucinations, some slight seizures, and even high blood pressure. Now one can take medicine in order for him not to feel these symptoms but they will only last a short time.

Now after one has finished his few weeks of detoxification, then he may now move on to the next step of rehab which would be mental healing. Now even if the body has been cleared from the substance, it does not mean that the mind has. It is for this reason that the therapists will now come into the picture.

Now one of the things that would give therapists a hard time would be the denial tendencies of the alcoholic patient. More often than not, the patients would still continue denying that they have a problem even at this stage. Now the therapists would constantly be having sessions with the patients so that the therapists may help try to change the mindset of the patients.

Of course along the way, some patients may feel hatred toward themselves or probably even depression. Now if this happens, then medicine would have to be prescribed already because it is dangerous to have strong negative thoughts while undergoing therapy. Having these strong negative thoughts may actually hinder healing.

Now if the therapist would see that the patient is actually getting better, he will ask the patient to try out some healthy activities. Some of these activities would include martial arts, yoga, any type of sports, or even art activities like music, painting, or even writing. Of course he will still continue his therapy like his counselling sessions or his group therapy sessions until his addiction has been healed completely.
