Weight Loss Using Vitamins B12 and B6

Medical experts agree that the human body requires vitamins to be as healthy as possible. Food is a source of many different types of vitamins, and even sunlight can be a source, as some vitamins are synthesized and absorbed by the skin. Of all the vitamin types, B vitamins are one of the most essential for bodily metabolic function. More recently however, there has been interest in vitamin B12 and vitamin B6 in particular, as they are now considered to play an important role in weight loss.

We will examine this further here, and analyze the ways these can benefit people.

Vitamin B12

Vitamin B12 is also called cobolamine as it contains the element cobalt within its structure. It is a water-soluble vitamin that is essential in maintaining the function of a number of different organ systems in the body, particularly the brain and nervous system. In addition to this, it is essential for the synthesis of haemoglobin and patients who are deficient in vitamin B12 can be anaemic.

B12 vitamins come from many sources, including many products made from animals. Deficiency of vitamin B12 is seen in people who consume a strict vegetarian diet. Lethargy is a common symptom of patients who lack B12 in their diets. In such a situation, patients may be administered vitamin B12 injections which can help them recover from this tiredness and regain the normal energy levels.

B12 Vitamin for weight loss

Vitamin B12 has been examined quite a bit as of late in the area of supplements for weight loss. Studies at this time have not confirmed this is a definite benefit. Vitamin B12 deficiency can also be a possible cause of weight loss, and for those who are looking to put on weight, B12 can help them to put on some of those lost pounds. The body has a certain capacity for absorbing vitamins and nutrients, and if too much of anything is ingested they no longer are beneficial.

B6

Vitamin B6 is also called pyridoxine and like vitamin B12 is a water-soluble vitamin. The body has many active forms of B6 within it. This is used in the critical break down of the amino acids in protein molecules, and also production of glucose in the body is benefited by vitamin B6. It also helps break down fats as well.

Vitamin B6 is also available in a variety of foods such as whole grain, nuts, vegetables and meat. A lack of B6 in the body can result in many issues, such as skin disease, or tongue and cheek inflammation, to name a couple of examples.

B6 as a weight loss vitamin supplement

As is the case with vitamin B12, there does not appear to be any strong evidence supporting the role of vitamin B6 in weight loss. When the body burns extra fat and breaks down food, it is known that vitamin B6 is an important part of this process, as the metabolism of lipids is stimulated by this.

The problem of course is that getting excess vitamin B6 can actually be harmful as it can over-stimulate the thyroid gland. One could actually lose weight this way, but it is harmful so it must be avoided.

Conclusion

Both of these vitamins B6, and B12 are incredibly important for the body to function optimally. The role of these vitamins in weight loss is in debate at this time, and there is no irrefutable proof that it helps. Diet and exercise remain the best ways to lose weight and should be observed more strictly.
